Vikings Edge Camels With Late Goal

NEW LONDON, Conn.Keagan O'Donoghue scored his second goal of the game with 2:48 left in the third to help Salem State skate off with a 5-4 victory over Connecticut College in a non-conference match-up at Dayton Arena on Tuesday evening. The Vikings earn their second win of the year (2-7) while the Camels slip to 1-5.

O'Donoghue gave Salem State an early 1-0 lead with a power-play goal. However, Connecticut College struck twice as Anthony Quatier scored back-to-back goals to put the Camels on top 2-1 at 18:19 of the first. Eamonn Miller tied the game with just eight seconds left in the first as the two contestants entered the second deadlocked, 2-2.

The two teams exchanged a pair of goals each in the second as Richard Coyle and Erik Larsson scored for the Vikings while Younghoon Choi and Lukas Uhler provided the offense for Connecticut College.

Tied 4-4 in the third, the Camels held a sizeable advantage in shots, outshooting Salem State 24-7 in the period, but O'Donoghue beat goalie Cam Fernandez with his third goal of the year to propel the Vikings to victory.

Hunter Thomas made 46 saves to earn his first win of the season. Cam Fernandez made 11 saves for Connecticut College in the loss despite the Camels outshooting the Vikings 50-16.
