SALEM, Mass. – Plymouth State received goals from six different scorers to remain unbeaten in Massachusetts State Collegiate Conference (MASCAC) play, improving to 6-0 with a 6-2 victory over Salem State on Saturday afternoon at Rockett Arena. The Panthers are now 7-3-1 on the year while the Vikings slide to 1-7 and 0-6 in conference.
Myles Abbate scored on a power-paly goal just 3:21 into the first period before Rider McCallum converted a 3-on-1 opportunity to give Plymouth State a 2-0 lead. Zach Dill beat goalie Brandon Shantz on a Salem State power-play with just over a minute left in the opening period to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Payton Schaly made it 3-1 in favor of Plymouth State at 4:49 of the second. Carson Lanceleve setup Ethan Stuckless for the Panthers' fourth goal on a power-play with 10:05 remaining in the second. However, Connor Woolley put one home from the slot midway through the second as the Vikings trailed 4-2 heading into the third.
The Panthers gained momentum back in the third, scoring a shorthanded goal as Connor Tait gave the Panthers a three-goal lead. Colin Tracy added a late goal making the final 6-2. Shantz picked up his second win (2-0) of the seasonin net, making 42 saves. Aaron Mercer (0-3) took the loss, stopping 41 shots for the Vikings.
