UMass Dartmouth Tops Salem State 5-2

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. – Matt Yianacopolus scored the first goal of the game, but three unanswered goals by UMass Dartmouth lifted the Corsairs to a 5-2 MASCAC win over the Vikings on Saturday. The Corsairs go to 3-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference. The Vikings drop to 0-5 overall and 0-4 in conference.

The Vikings opened the scoring 16:44 into the game when Yianacopolus scored an unassisted goal for the only score of the period. UMass Dartmouth took control of the game in the second period. The Corsairs tallied three scores throughout the stanza, two of which came in the first three minutes. The first score came from junior Michael Mania, with assists credited to senior Stephon Perreault and freshman Tyler Stewart. The go-ahead score for the Corsairs came off the stick of senior Justin Weinbrenner on a pass from his classmate Jake Maynard. Maynard then scored a goal of his own with four minutes remaining, assisted by junior Dominic Dumas.

Zach Dill cut the UMass Dartmouth lead to one in the third. However, the Corsairs responded with two more goals, coming from freshmen Matthew Zdanowicz and Kevin Johnston. Zdanowicz's goal came at 13:09 and was assisted by Dumas and senior Michael Perrone. Johnston's score came just one minute later thanks to passes from Weinbrenner and Maynard.

The Corsairs were 0-4 on power-play opportunities, the Vikings were 0-3. The Corsairs out-shot the Vikings 34-30.
