Vikings Open Season With 7-1 Loss to #14 Endicott

BEVERLY, Mass. -- No.14 Endicott scored five unanswered second period goals as the Gulls claimed a 7-1 victory over Salem State in the season opener for both teams on Friday evening. Connor Amsley led the way for Endicott with a pair of shorthanded goals. Keagan O'Donoghue tallied the only score the Vikings.

The two teams played a scoreless first period before Endicott's offense exploded for five goals in the second. Cam Speck started the run with a goal just :34 seconds into the period. Amsley added his first shorthanded attempt at the 5:06 mark before Mitch Shaheen made it 3-0 in favor the Gulls. Amsley added his second score on a Vikings' power-play for a 4-0 lead. Cass Bowes continued the streak with a score at 15:12.

O'Donoghue got one back for Salem State early in the third with a power-play goal, but Ryan Willett and Connor Beatty added back-to-back power-play goals for Endicott to close the scoring, making the final 7-1.

Atticus Kelly made 31 saves or the Gulls in the win while Aaron Mercer took the loss, stopping 25 shots in two periods of work. Hunter Thomas made 19 saves in relief in the third period. Endicott held a 51-32 advantage in shots.
