PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State jumped out to a 4-0 lead as the Panthers defeated Salem State 4-1 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's ice hockey contest Saturday evening at Hanaway Rink. The Panthers improve to 17-5-2 and 14-2-2 in conference . The Vikings are now 9-12 on the season and 7-10 in the MASCAC.
Myles Abbate accounted for the only goal of the first period, staking Plymouth State to a 1-0 advantage. JR Barone and Whim Stalberg made it 3-0 in the second in favor of the Panthers as Plymouth State held a 14-8 margin in shots on goal. Jeromey Rancourt extended the Panthers' lead to 4-0 at the 8:31 mark of the third. Keagan O'Donoghue broke the shutout for Salem State with a score at 15:01. Plymouth State replaced starting goaltender Kalle Andersson with Ben Parker for the final 4:48.
Andersson made 22 saves in the win while Aaron Mercer was credited with 44 saves for the Vikings. The Panthers finished the game with a 48-25 advantage in shots. Both teams ended the game 0-for-3 on the power-play.
