HENNIKER, N.H. – Keagan O'Donoghue scored twice, but five unanswered goals helped New England College to a 6-3 victory over Salem State on Saturday afternoon. The Pilgrims now stand at 5-2-1 on the year while the Vikings go to 2-5 overall.
O'Donoghue struck first with a wrister just 2:22 into the opening period. However, Anthony Cinato answered for New England College, tying the score with his first of the year as the period ended in a 1-1 tie.
The Pilgrims took control of the game in the second, scoring three unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead. Trevor Momot's one-timer from the top of the right circle started the scoring. A David Novotny penalty shot at 12:40, made it 3-1 before Tim Lopez wristed a shot past goalie Aaron Mercer at the 16:53 mark.
CJ Valerian made it 5-1 early in the third before Joe Smith broke the Vikings' scoring draught with a power play goal at 7:39 of the third. O'Donoghue made it 5-3 with his second goal of the game before, Jhuwon Davis sealed the victory for the Pilgrims with an empty netter.
Andrew Kormos recorded 22 saves for NEC. Mercer finished with 53 saves, the most since Jason Pucciarelli made 55 against Endicott in 2016. The Pilgrims outshot Salem State 59-25.
