Vikings Shutout Rams 2-0, Pick Up First Win

Framingham, Mass – Goalie Joona Sato-Hunsula made 35 saves as Salem State blanked Framingham State 2-0 the MASCAC opener for both teams on Thursday evening at Loring Arena. The Vikings even their record at 1-1 overall and go to 1-0 in conference. The Rams are 0-1.  

Following a scoreless first, the Vikings finally got a good look halfway through the second period, with a great one-timer that was saved by Blake Carlson on his glove hand side. The Vikings finally broke through in the 14th minute of the 2nd when Connor Woodley finished off a setup by Billy McGwin and Richard Coyle to go up 1-0.  

The Rams had a good look in the 7th minute of the third when a rebound settled in front of an open net but Sato-Hunsula was able to cover it and kill the play. The Vikings scored an insurance goal in the 11th minute of the third when Erik Larsson put one in the top right corner from a sharp angle.  

 

Carlson stopped 29 shots in net for the Rams. The Vikings were 0-for-5 on the power play while the Rams were also 0-for-5.  

Zachary Bettmeng and Dylan Marty led the Rams with five shots a piece while Luke Day led the Vikings with five shots on goal.
