Duke Nelson Invitational Results

MIDDLEBURY, VT. -- Salem State finished 16th at the Duke Nelson Invitational hosted by Middlebury Invitational this past weekend at the par-71 Ralph Myhre Golf Course.

The Vikings were led by freshman Ethan Doyle who tied for 27th after finishing with a two-day total of (78-74, 152). Senior Captain Matthew Godbout has his best college showing to date, tying for 56th after firing a (82-77, 159). Brian Cannata (84-77, 161),  Assistant Captain Travis Ryan (82-80, 162) and Danny DiLisio (93-90, 182) rounded out the lineup for the Vikings.

Head coach Jimmy O'Reilly was pleased with the group's performance. I am very proud and pleased of the way the guys battle on day two, after not having our best stuff on day one. First day we had a lot of jitters as most of our team was playing in their first college event. The wind was blowing at 25 MPH both days which played havoc with club selection.

Middlebury is a course you truly need to see at least once or twice to have success. As a player, I struggled the first time I saw the course, and I let the guys know that it took me a practice round and the first round to shoot a good score, and the same thing happened with our guys today. It has two tiered greens with a lot of falls fronts, so if you don't commit to the number, you can end up in some tricky spots to try and save par."

Middlebury's Hogan Beazley captured medalist honors by three strokes.   Babson (580) edged New York University (581) to claim the team title.
