Conner Byrne, MacDonald Named to All-MASCAC Second Team

SALEM, Mass. -- Seniors Conner Byrne (Melrose, Mass.) and Chris MacDonald (Wakefield, Mass.) were named to the 2022-23 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball All-Conference Second Team as voted on by the leagues's seven head coaches in an announcement on Wednesday. 

This is the second straight appearance for Byrne, who averaged a double-double of 14.1 ppg and 10.7 rpg, which ranked 7th and 2nd in the MASCAC. His 289 total rebounds topped the league, while the forward finished in the top-5 in points (380), blocks (38), fg percentage (52.9) and fg made (156). Byrne's 14 double-doubles ranked in the top-20 in the country.

MacDonald, a first-time honoree, was the Vikings second leading scorer, producing a 13.3 scoring average, placing him in the top-10 in the MASCAC. MacDonald had career-highs in three-pointers (46) field goals (130) and assists (52) this season. 

Aaron Nkrumah of Worcester State and graduate student Emerson Halbleib of Bridgewater State were named the 2022-23 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player and Defensive Player of the Year. 

Dante Kikuba of Bridgewater State earned the 2022-23 MASCAC Rookie of the Year and after leading the Lancers to their first-ever 20 win season, perfect league record and the MASCAC Regular Season title, Tyler Hundley of Worcester State was voted the 2022-23 BSN Sports Coach of the Year by his peers. 
 
Joining Nkrumah and Halbleib on the 2022-23 All-Conference First Team were Noah Yearsley of MCLA, Brendon Hamilton and JT Thompson of Westfield State.
 
On the Second Team were Juran Ligonde of Framingham State, Conner Byrne and MacDonald of Salem State and Erik Bjorn and Ryan Rubenskas of Worcester State.
