Vikings End Season on Road in MASCAC Quarterfinals

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Salem State field hockey closed their season on the road tonight after falling 5-2 to the Lancers from Worcester State University in the quarterfinals of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) field hockey tournament. The Vikings finished their season with an overall record of 2-15.

How it Happened:

  • The Lancers dominated the first period, registering eight shots while keeping the Vikings without a single attempt on goal. However, Vikings' goalie Izzy Mosley (Middleborough, Mass.) was a brick wall, turning away all five shots on target to keep the game scoreless to head into the second quarter.
  • Less than a minute into the second, Grace Morey (Danvers, Mass.) connected with teammate Allison Thomas (Carver, Mass.), who put the Vikings on the board and gave her squad the 1-0 lead. However, Salem's advantage would be short-lived, as the Lancers answered five minutes later, scoring at the 20-minute mark to tie the game at one before heading into the break.
  • In a three-minute span during the third quarter, three different Lancers found the back of the net, giving Worcester a commanding 4-1 lead as they headed into the final 15 minutes of play.
  • Worcester added another goal in the 49th minute, extending their lead to four. However, just three minutes later, the Morey-Thomas connection struck again, with Thomas scoring to cut the Vikings' deficit to 5-2. That score would hold over the final eight minutes, sealing the Lancers' victory and bringing an end to the Vikings' season.
