Westfield State Rolls Past Salem State 5-0

Westfield, Mass. –- Westfield State scored three third period goals to blow past Salem State, 5-0 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) match on Saturday at Alumni Field. The Owls jump to 10-7 on the season and 6-2 in the MASCAC, The Vikings are 2-12 and 0-8 in the league.  

How it Happened:

  • Leah Pierce gave Westfield State a 1-0 lead at 4:06 of the first quarter.
  • Meredith Higgins extended the lead to 2-0 at the 20 minute mark, to give the Owls a two-goal cushion at halftime.  
  • Westfield State sealed the game in the third quarter as Abby Clark sandwiched a pair of goals around a tally from Erin Murphy, making the score 5-0 in favor of the Owls.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Emma Gniadek made one save in the win before giving way to Olivia Labrie, who finished with three saves. 
  • Izzy Mosley stopped eight shots for the Vikings. 
  • The Owls racked up a 17-5 advantage in shots as the two teams combined for 78 fouls.
