KEEENE, N.H. -- Keene State turned four first period goals into a 5-2 victory over Salem State in Little East field hockey action on Wednesday evening. The Owls remain unbeaten in the LEC (5-0) and improve to 6-4 overall. The Vikings are now 3-6 and 1-4 in the conference.
Irini Stefanakos scored just 1:27 into the contest as Keene State scored four times in the first 10:43 of the game. Lauren Hausser and Chase Lambert made it 3-0 in favor of the Owls before Ellie Hunkins punctuated the run with Keene State's fourth goal. The Owls outhot Salem State 9-1 for the period.
Melanie Mason broke the shutout for the Vikings with her third goal of the season in the third. However, Julia Baer made it 5-1 with a score at the 55:41 mark. Mason added another goal at the buzzer for Salem State, making the final 5-2.
Faith Soller earned the win without making a save for Keene State. Kaia Hollingsworth stopped 13 shots for the Vikings.
