Vikings Power Past Buccaneers

SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State used an eight-run fourth, highlighted by two, two-run home runs from Connor Dolan and Dylan Adamson to power past Mass Maritime, 11-6 at The Central Campus Baseball Field on Friday. The Vikings up their record to 10-12 and 6-5 in the MASCAC while the Buccaneers slip to 16-13 and 7-4
How It Happened:
Dolan finished 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and two RBI. Ethan Stepputtis, Michael Buccaro and Yabdriel Gonzalez all collected three hits while Gonzalez drove in three runs. Jake Boucher went 2-for-4 with two doubles.
Matt Walling threw 8.0 innings in relief of starter Aidan Carabello, allowing just a run on six hits with four walks and three strikeouts in improving to 1-0.
Brett Velzis was 3-for-4 with two doubles for Mass Maritime and Colsen Loughren added a three-run home run. Ben Zschau (1-1) suffered the loss, going 3.0 innings and allowing nine runs on nine hits with two walks and a strikeout.
- The Buccaneers plated five runs in the first, as seven of the first eight batter reached safely. AJ Pietrafesa's RBI single scored the first run before Loughren delivered a three-run home run to deep left. Jake Houston later added a sacrifice fly for the fifth run of the inning.
- The Vikings countered with three in the bottom of the inning, as Stepputtis, Buccaro and Gonzalez drove in three consecutive runs on three straight singles.
- Trailing, 5-3 in the fourth, Salem State's offense exploded for eight runs on eight hits with Adamson and Dolan providing the big blows, each with a deep drive to left. Ryan Bourgeois also added an RBI single while Gonzalez made it an 11-5 game with a two-run single to left center.
- Houston added a sacrifice fly in the fifth, making the score 11-6.
Salem State travel to Mass Maritime for a pair of games tomorrow afternoon beginning at 1:00 pm.
