Keene State Wins 8-5 Over Vikings

RINDGE, N.H. -- Tommy Ahlers went 2-for-4 with a home run two runs scored and two RBI to lift Keene State to an 8-5 win over Salem State at Pappas Field on Wednesday. The Owls improve to 6-9 while the Vikings go to 3-6. 

Evan McCue, Shea Zina and Jonathan Chatfield all had two hits apiece for Keene State. Nathan Pirog started for the Owls, going 3.0 innings, allowing a run on four hits with a walk.  

Brayden Michaelson was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI for Salem State. Owen Duggan also had three hits in five at-bats. Nick Krompegal started for the Vikings, logging 1.1 innings with five runs allowed on three hits with four walks and a strikeout. 

How It Happened

  • Ahlers put the Owls on top 2-0 in the first with a two-run home run.
  • Yarema Stasysyhn's RBI groundout in the second made it a 2-1 game.  
  • The Owls plated three runs in the bottom of the second on a balk, and a two-run double from Zina to take a 5-1 lead.
  • A passed ball brought home Salem State' second run in the fifth, but once again Keene State answered with two more runs on an RBI single by Luke Anderson and a sacrifice fly by Evan Cali.
  • Michaelson's three-run double to center in the seventh drew Salem State to within 7-5.   
  • McCue's RBI double in the seventh added an insurance run as the Owls held on for an 8-5 victory.

The Vikings will play Fitchburg State this Thursday, March 27 at 6:30 pm. The game will be played at Franklin Pierce.
