#6 Gulls Defeat Vikings in Home Opener

SALEM, Mass. -- Joey Frammartino, went for 4-for-5 with a grand slam to power #6 Endicott past Salem State, 21-6 in the season opener for the Vikings at The Central Campus Baseball Field on Friday afternoon. Frammartino drove in six runs for the Gulls as they open the season 3-1. The Vikings are 0-1. 

Danny MacDougall had four hits in six at-bats with a pair of runs and Robbie Wladkowski went 3-for-4 with four runs to pace the offense for Endicott. 

Nolan Currier went 3-for-4 with a double for Salem State while Antonio Belgrove had a pair of hits, including a triple and two RBI. Owen Duggan contributed two hits, one of them a triple with an RBI and run scored. 

Neither starter earned the decision as Endicott's Nicholas Cannata lasted one inning, allowing five runs - three earned on three hits. Cam Fisher took the start for Salem State and went three innings, giving up six runs - one earned on seven hits with three strikeouts. Charlie Hale (1-1) picked up the win with four effective innings in relief, giving up just a hit with five strikeouts. Aidan Carabello (0-1) took the loss after allowing three runs on four hits with a walk as the Vikings used six pitchers in the game.   

How it Happened:

  • Salem State jumped on top with a five-run first, highlighted by a two-run triple to left center by Belgrove. Duggan followed with another triple before and RBI single by Currier and a sacrifice fly by Dylan Adamson made it 5-0.
  • Endicott countered with a five-run second, with Frammartino doing the damage with a grand slam to right center.
  • The Gulls added a run in the third and three more in the fourth to take a 9-6 lead before opening the game up with a six-run sixth, sending 10 men to the plate. TJ Liponis and AJ Hamm had RBI doubles before Danny MacDougall drove in the final run with an RBI triple.  
  • Five more runs in the eighth inning pushed the lead to 20-6 as the Owls took advantage of two Salem State errors. Liponis, Brenden Walsh and John Mulready all provided runs in the inning.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Endicott scored 21 runs on 23 hits, including six extra-base hits.
  • Salem State made five errors in the game. 
  • The Gulls' bullpen did not allow a run after the third inning, with just one hit allowed.
