EAST BOSTON, Mass.- Max Martin (Walpole, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with 4 RBI to give Suffolk a 7-1 victory over Salem State at Memorial Field. The Rams improve to 19-13 while the Vikings drop to 15-13.

How It Happened

  • Connor Dolan (Rockland, Mass.) reached first base in the third inning after a throwing error by the shortstop Jonny Gilbride (Beverly, Mass.). Samuel Erskine (Killingworth, Conn.) moved Dolan to second with a successful sacrifice bunt. Two batters later, the Vikings managed to score the first run of the game. Antonio Belgrove (Stamford, Conn.) hit a ground ball towards Gilbride, who made a throwing error, allowing Dolan to score from second base.
  • Harry Painter (Essex, Mass.) led off the fourth inning with a lead-off triple, and two batters later, the Rams tied the game on Max Iorio's (Hull, Mass.) RBI double towards left center field. The Rams added one more in the inning, to take a 2-1 lead after four innings of play.
  • Two innings later in the sixth, Suffolk had two runners in scoring position and one out when Martin split the outfield in right center field to bring home two more Rams.
  • Suffolk had all three bases occupied with no outs in the seventh. Brady Boucher (Taunton, Mass.) committed a balk that forced in a run. Sam Armbruster (Beverly, Mass.) and Martin added RBI groundouts, delivering the sixth and seventh runs for their team. By the end of the seventh inning, the Rams had established a commanding lead of 7-1 lead.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Salem State starter pitcher Nick Bamforth (Stoneham, Mass.) retired the first four batters he faced, three by strikeout. Bamforth continued his impressive performance, pitching three complete innings without giving up a single hit earning a no-decision.
  • Suffolk starter pitcher Garret Roberts (Stratham, N.H.) also pitched a no-decision pitching two innings and giving up just a hit.
  • Jack Raimo (Reading, Mass.) recorded the win in relief. He pitched four innings, giving up a hit, while Jake Usenia (Uxbridge, Mass.) recorded the loss pitching an inning while giving up three hits and one earned run.
  • The Vikings will head to Worcester on Friday April 26 to conclude their two-game road trip against Worcester State. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and marks the beginning of a three-game weekend series against the Lancers.
