DAVENPORT, Fla. -- Rowan University scored six times during the second inning to secure an 11-3 victory over Salem State on Tuesday night at Northeast Regional Park. The Prof extended their winning streak to six straight as they improve their record to 6-1 while the Vikings dip to 1-3.

Jake Reese (Downingtown, PA) earned the win on Tuesday night pitching four innings, allowing four hits, three earned runs while striking out five Vikings' batters. On the other hand, Salem State starter Kyle Banche (Torrington, Conn.) took the loss pitching two innings and allowing five hits, six runs - three earned.

How Did It Happen?

  • Mark Smith (East Heaven, Conn.) led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run, his second home run of the season, giving the Vikings an early 1-0 lead.

  • The Prof responded quickly in the top of the second inning. Jason Morgan (Logan Twp., NJ) started the inning with a solo shot that tied the game at one. Rowan capitalized on their momentum and scored five more runs in the inning.

  • Two innings later, the Vikings put the first two-men on base. With two runners in scoring position, Owen Duggan (Billerica, Mass.)  stepped up to the plate and delivered the second run for Salem State on a fielder's choice. The deficit was cut in half when TJ Beninati (Suffren, N.Y.) hit a single to right field.
  • Nolan Currier (Maynard, Mass.) and Brandon McMahon (Malden, Mass.) delivered an exceptional relief performance, combining for four innings and striking out five batters while only allowing one hit.  However, in the seventh inning, a two-run home run by Phil Sedalis (Wenonah, NJ) extended the Prof's lead to 8-3.
  • During the top of the ninth inning, Dylan Maria (Blackwood, N.J.) connected for a three-run home run, making the final 11-3.

What's Next?

  • Salem State will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon in Florida when they take on The University of Maine at Farmington. The game is scheduled for 1:15 p.m.
