Vikings Take One of Two

Salem, Mass. -- Cam Prescott threw six scoreless innings to lead Framingham State to a 6-0 game one victory over Salem State at The Central Campus Baseball Field in a Massachusetts State Collegiate (MASCAC) doubleheader on Monday. Kyle Banche allowed one run over five innings and Jake Boucher drove in two runs as the Vikings salvaged a split, winning game two, 5-3. The Rams go 17-10 and 8-3 in the MASCAC while Salem State is now 7-19 and 4-7.

Game One
 
Prescott scattered five hits and allowed four walks with three strikeouts in the win.
 
A hit by pitch and double by Ryan Boyle put runners on second and third for Framingham State in the first. A walk loaded the bases before Caleb Hendrix plated the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly to deep right. Salem State starter Carl Beatrice went just one inning and was charged with a run on one hit and a walk.
 
Jake Usenia replaced Beatrice in the second and struck out six in 4.1 innings of relief. The junior gave up two runs on two hits with two walks.
 
An EJ Field single and double by Bobby Jellison put runners on second and third for the Vikings in the fourth. However, Prescott worked out of trouble with a ground ball out and strikeout.
 
The Rams loaded the bases with one in the sixth as a hit by Lucas Basile, a walk and hit batter loaded the bases for pinch-hitter Jimmy Gilleran. Gilleran worked a walk to force in a run, chasing Usenia from the game. Emerson Tucholski came in for Salem State and was greeted with a line drive single to right by Shane Costello bringing in Framingham State's third run of the game.
 
The Rams added three insurance runs in the seventh on an error and two-run single by Matthew Shaver.
 
Salem State put two runners on in the bottom of the seventh, which brought in reliever Jacob Gorman, who recorded the final three outs to preserve the shutout.
 
Basile went 2-for-4 with two runs for the Rams.
 
 
Game Two
 
Banche gave up six hits and walked a batter and struck out one in the victory.
 
Brahiam Ortega worked a lead-off walk for Salem State in the bottom of the first and was driven home by Boucher, who tripled to the gap in right center. Devon Fuegen plated Boucher with a sacrifice fly to right as the Vikings built a 2-0 lead. An RBI single Ortega brought home Bobby Jellison with Salem State's third run in the second.  
 
The Rams recorded three singles in the third with Steven Burbank driving in Shaver with Framingham State's first run.
 
Ryan Morry replaced Framingham starter Joshua Sunderland in the fifth after Sunderland allowed four runs on five hits with five walks and four strikeouts. 
 
A sacrifice fly by Boucher made it 4-1 in favor of the Vikings in the fourth. Jellison led off the sixth with a double and came home an RBI single by Owen Duggan. Greg Gentle threw a scoreless sixth for Salem State before giving way to Boucher in the seventh.
 
The Rams made it interesting as Shaver and Gilleran hit back-to-back doubles with no outs. Ryan Boyle added an RBI single to draw Framingham State to within 5-3 as the tying run came to the plate. However, Boucher ended the game on a ground out to second.
 
Duggan finished 2-for-3 with a walk and RBI. Shaver was 2-for-3 with two runs for Framingham State.
