Vikings Pick Up First Win, 6-2 Over Cardinals

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Kyle Banche pitched 3.2 innings of scoreless relief and Aidan Lynch went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored to lead Salem State past Plattsburgh, 6-2 for the Vikings first win of the season (1-3). The Cardinals slip to 1-4 on the year. It is the first career victory for interim-head coach Andrew Gummow.   

Salem State jumped on top 3-0 in the second inning behind an RBI double by Tyler Wilson and a run-scoring single  to center by Aidan LynchBrahiam Ortega followed with an RBI single to left for the Vikings third run of the inning. Salem State starter Brad Feeder, who went 2.1 innings and was charged with two earned runs, ran into trouble in the bottom of the inning as Plattsburgh State plated two runs on a base hit by Ben Catrambone and a fielder's choice.

Feeder was replaced by Banche in the third inning and the junior responded by retiring 11-of-12 batters, only giving up a sixth inning single. A three-run sixth gave Salem State some breathing room, highlighted by an RBI double from James Dolan

Banche finished with three strikeouts and did not allow a walk. Greg Gentle and Jake Boucher combined to shutout the Cardinals over the final three innings to preserve the victory. Ortega finished 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Vikings, who collected nine hits in the game.
