Baseball Loses 9-2 to Mount Aloysius in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Salem State faced Mount Aloysius in the opening game of their spring trip to Myrtle Beach on Sunday evening. The Mounties defeated the Vikings 9-2 at Crosley Field to even their record at 3-3 on the year. Salem State is now 0-2.

Zack Peck and Joshua Brown each homered for Mount Aloysius, which built a 7-0 lead behind the strong effort of starting pitcher Tyler Quade who allowed just two hits to go with 13 strikeouts in five innings of work. Brahiam Ortega, who went 1-for-3, hit a two-run home run for the Vikings in the seventh.

Jack Sefrino took the loss for Salem State, going 1.1 innings, allowing two runs on three hits with three strikeouts as the Vikings used six pitchers in the game. 

Peck hit a solo shot in the first and Brown added a two-run homer in the seventh. The Mounties plated six runs in the sixth thru eighth innings to break the game open. The Vikings managed just five hits in the game with pinch hitter Ryan Bourgeois, collecting a double in the ninth for the only other extra-base hit for the Vikings.

Chris Hasse picked up the save with 4.0 innings of relief, allowing a pair of runs, one earned, on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
