Vikings Sweep Pilgrims, Improve to 4-0 on Spring Trip

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Salem State swept New England College 5-3 and 3-0 at the Ripken Experience to raise their record to 4-2 on the season. Christian Burt went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI's in game one while Mason Consigli pitched a complete game one-hitter in leading Salem State to a game two victory.

The Vikings jumped on top 3-0 in the first on RBI singles by Jack Sefrino and Bobby Jellison. A double steal provided the third run of the inning as Jellison stole home. The Pilgrims tied the game with a single run in the first and two more in the second. Starter Brad Feeded lasted 3.1 innings, allowing thre runs on seven hits. Kyle Banche and Jake Boucher provided 3.2 innings of scoreless relief with Banche earned the win with 2.2 innings of work, allowing four hits. Burt broke the stalemate with a two-run single in the fourth allowing Boucher to pick up the save, leaving the bases loaded after recording back-to-back strikeouts in the seventh to end the game.

Consigli gave up a first inning single and allowed just three base runners the rest of the way as Salem State shutout New England College 3-0 in game two. Consigli issued two walks and hit a batter while striking out six in winning his first game. Zach Piroh went 2-for-3 in the second game, which included an RBI single in the fourth. Burt made it 2-0 in the fifth with a base hit up the middle. A double-play in the sixth gave the Vikngs their final run.
