Thomas Doyle was a standout performer on the basketball court as a shooting guard during his Salem State College career. He is the sixth all time leading scorer in the history of SSC’s men’s basketball. Tommy’s 1.442 career points follows his father’s total of 1,480. Tommy and his father, Peter Doyle, are the first father and son to be inducted into the Salem State College Athletic Hall of Fame.

A Salem native and resident, Tommy concluded his career in grand fashion when he was chosen to the Division 3 Northeast Region all American team for the 1995-96 season. He was one of the nation’s top three-point shooters during his senior year when he averaged 20.3 points per game. That season he was selected player of the year by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) after helping lead the Vikings to the MASCAC regular season and the post season tournament titles, and to the NCAA playoffs with a record of 25-3. He never missed a game in four years, and he was the four time MASCAC all star, three time All New England Performer, and three time MASCAC all academic team member. Tommy was honored as SSC’s Male President’s Cup recipient and the MASCAC’s Howard C. Smith Male Scholar Athlete his senior year.

A prolific shooter from beyond the three point line, Tommy, a two time team co captain, holds SSC’s men’s basketball records for three pointers made in a half (8), a game (10), a season (124), and a career (304). He finished second among the national Division 3 leaders during his senior campaign, averaging 4.4 three pointers made per game.
