Bio

John, a member of the classes of 1957 and 1964G, was the starting point guard for the men’s basketball team for four years and served as team captain his senior season. John helped lead Salem Teachers College to the program’s first New England State Teachers College Conference championship in 1954. John was also a two-year starting pitcher for the baseball program prior to leaving the college to fulfill a military service obligation during the Korean War. While serving in Darmstadt Germany for two years, john found basketball and baseball skills by playing on military teams. John returned to campus in 1956 to complete his teaching degree and resume his lead role on the basketball team. John received the basketball Sportsmanship Trophy awarded by the Salem Teachers College Men’s Athletic Association in 1954 prior to his departure for Army duty.
