Bio

An all around athlete, Levy was best known as a basketball player. Serving as captain for two of the three seasons he played, he led his team to many of Salem’s first major victories, thus helping to establish the credibility of the program. The college was, at the time, a three year institution. He also competed on the baseball and tennis teams for three years. After graduating, he returned to the College to coach the basketball team in 1937-1938 as a “graduate” student, completing his fourth year certification requirement.

Before joining the faculty of the College of Education at the University of Kentucky in 1960, Levy was the teacher and administrator of Special Education in the Lynn Public Schools.  He was head basketball coach for nine years at the English High School and was active in area basketball from 1931 to 1955 along with his fellow teammates Herb Brenner and Jim Twohig. At the University of Kentucky, Levy was the coordinator of Special Education Programs and won numerous awards for his work in this field.

Levy, the father of three daughters, Alice, Roberta, and Debra, retired in 1979 and now resides in Lexington, Kentucky with his wife Frances.
