Rachael Carter is a 2017 graduate of Salem State Univeristy. While a student studying nursing, Carter was also a standout on the women's basketball team who was inducted into the Salem State Atheltics' Hall of Fame this past year in 2022. Since her days at Salem State she has been working at Lawrence General Hospital where she recently was the recipient of the DAISY Foundation award. You can read more about Carter and the honor she recived below:

"Lawrence General Hospital is proud to recognize Registered Nurse Rachael Carter as our most recent winner of the DAISY Foundation award. Break out the tissues for this nomination story...

Rachael's care and commitment to a patient came at perhaps a family's most difficult time. The H4 nurse, said the family member who nominated her on behalf of her recently deceased husband, did not hesitate to devote her whole self to his care in his dying days.
"My husband was a patient for several days before passing on December 1, 2022. During this extremely stressful and trying time, Rachael provided comfort to us and clearly explained the medical options and possible outcomes," read her nomination. "Rachael did everything possible to make my husband comfortable and be sure he was not in pain. When first admitted, my husband had a roommate who was loud, profane and obnoxious, creating additional stress and anxiety for both me and my husband. Thanks to Rachael's efforts, my husband was moved and passed in a calm, comforting environment. Rachael made my husband's last days as comfortable as possible and provided much needed support for me. There is no way to express what a difference she made for both my husband and myself during his last days. Rachael is the epitome of what a nurse can be and the positive impact they can have on patients and their families."

Thank you, Rachael, for caring, and for making a difference for this family. Congratulations on your DAISY Award!"
