Worcester State Defeats Salem State in Overtime

SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State took first place Worcester State to overtime, but Natalya Morin scored at 65:33 to lift the Lancers to a 3-2 win over Salem State in a MASCAC match at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon. The win lifts the Lancers to 7-5 and a perfect 5-0 in conference. The Vikings are now 4-7 on the season and 2-3 in the MASCAC.

Worcester State struck first with Grace Adams scoring the first goal of the game at the 15:37 mark as the Lancers took a 1-0 lead. Melanie Mason responded for Salem State, adding  ag oal at the 23:51 mark to tie the game at 1-1. The two teams remained tied at halftime with the Lancers holding a 15-6 advantage in shots and a 13-2 margin in corners.

Adams struck again for Worcester State in the third period,  adding the go-ahead goal at 40:27. However, Melanie Mason tallied her second goal of the game, tying the score again at 2-2 with her fourth goal of the season at 42:56.

A scoreless fourth period led to overtime as Morin put home the game-winner off an assist from Charlotte MacGregor. 

Sam Gastonguay made nine saves in the win for the Lancers whie Izzy Mosley stopped 17 shots for the Vikings.

Worcester State ended the game with a 24-13 advantage in shots and a 21-10 lead in penalty corners.
