Panthers Defeat Vikings 6-3

SALEM, Mass. – Salem State received strong performances from Anastasia Startseva (Volksburg, Russia) and Alexandria Floyd (Burlington, Mass.), but Salem State lost their Little East tennis opener 6-3 to Plymouth State on Saturday afternoon at the Central Campus Tennis Courts. The Panthers improve to 2-0, 1-0 while the Vikings dip to 0-3, 0-1.

Startseva once again dominated at first singles, dispatching Kira Winter (Eliot, Maine), 6-2, 6-0. Floyd followed with an impressive win at second singles over Sarah Asciutto (Manchester, Vt.), 6-4, 6-3. However, Plymouth State swept third through sixth singles, earning a win at sixth singles by forfeit. Tessa LaBarre (North Smithfield, R.I.), Elena Cardoso (Hudson, Mass.) and Julie Miller (Woburn, Mass.) all won in straight sets for the Panthers.

Startseva / Floyd picked up the lone doubles point for Salem State with an 8-5 win over Megan Marshall  (Dartmouth, Mass.) / Winter. LaBarre /Miller won 8-1 over Samantha Tenney (Danvers, Mass.) / Abbie Laliberte (Gardner, Mass.). Plymouth State won the third doubles match by forfeit.
