Why I Chose to Be A Viking - Katie Brown '20

Why did you choose to become a Viking?

"Salem State offers so many opportunities to get involved and succeed on campus. I knew coming in that I was interested in the 4+1 program and being able to play soccer while being in an accelerated master's program was the best of both worlds. There is so much diversity on campus and I was lucky enough to be a part of athletics and residence life, which were very important to me over these past four years."

What has that experience meant to you?

"I am so lucky that I was able to meet so many people and have so many connections. The friendships I have made will be lifelong and my team became a second family to me. My teammates and coaches helped me succeed and step out of my comfort zone while taking on new challenges."

What advice would you give to student-athletes about to start their careers or those returning student-athletes with eligibility left?

"It goes by so fast, cherish every moment as a student-athlete. Grow from the low moments, and thrive off the wins, celebrations, and bonds created with your teammates and coaches!"
