Women's Soccer Places Four on All-MASCAC Conference Team
SALEM, MASS. – Midfielder Ashley Leboeuf (Dracut, Mass.) and defender Kaitlyn Curley (Wilmington, Mass.) were each named to the 2018 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference First Team while Colleen Hurley (Braintree, Mass.) and Ceara Kelly (Holbrook, Mass.) earned second team honors as announced by the league on Wednesday.
Leboeuf is appearing on the first team for the second consecutive season after scoring five goals and and an assist – 11 points while starting in all 19 games for Salem State, which finished 6-11-2 and in fifth place in the MASCAC, but earned a trip to the conference finals after upsetting top seed Worcester State in a shootout.
Curley, a three-time first team selection, helped the Vikings' defense post a 2.20 goals against average, which was fourth best in the league while contributing a goal and assist in 19 starts.
Hurley and Kelly are both first time selections at the midfielder and defenseman positions as both seniors started all 19 games for Salem State.
Ali Maldonado of Worcester State and Megan Richardson of MCLA earned the 2018 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors while Delaney Langton of Bridgewater State was named the 2018 MASCAC Rookie of the Year. The freshman from Scuitate, R.I., netted five goals and three assists for 13 points this season.
Maldonado, a sophomore from Rutland, Mass., helped the Lancers to a perfect 7-0 record, the MASCAC Regular Season title and top spot in the league tournament. She finished the year tied for third in the conference in goals with nine and was first in game-winners with four. She also tallied five assists this season. After helping the Bears to a 5-1-1 mark in league action and the second seed in the MASCAC Tournament. Richardson earns the first-ever MASCAC Defensive Player of the Year award after leading the league in total saves with 149 while collecting a 1.53 goals against average, .851 save percentage, six wins and four shutouts for the Trailblazers. Yasmina Carvalho of Bridgewater State was voted by her peers as the 2018 Champion's Choice Women's Soccer Coach of the Year.
Sitting on the MASCAC First Team with Maldonado and Richardson are Kassidy Campbell and Nicole Simas of Bridgewater State, Kayla Baker of MCLA, Curley and Leboeuf of Salem State, Bella Eduardo, Jenn Rennich and Casey Rotti of Westfield State and Maddie Fong of Worcester State.
Earning a spot on the 2018 MASCAC Second Team are Caitlin Rowley and Alana Vincent of Bridgewater State, Mikaela Mitchell of Fitchburg State, Kayla Almstrom and Elizabeth Paolucci of Framingham State, Cetera Moore of MCLA, Madison Taylor of Massachusetts Maritime, Hurley and Kelly of Salem State, Natalia Falcone of Westfield State and Hannah Foster of Worcester State.
