Colby-Sawyer Charges Past Salem

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Salem State women's lacrosse traveled to New London, N.H. this afternoon for a non-conference bout with the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College. After 60 minutes of action, the Chargers would take the 14-2 victory over the Vikings, dropping Salem to 0-3 on the season.

For the Vikings, Laura Young (Leominster, Mass.) and Jenna Wells (Revere, Mass.) each notched a goal with Young adding the helper on Wells'. Defensively, Nora Bradley (Haddon Township, N.J.) turned away ten shots on the afternoon.

Heather Hanson (Barnstable, Mass.) and Soph Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.) paced the Chargers with five and three goals, respectively, while Hanson added two assists and five ground balls in the victory.

The Chargers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Sydney Stevens (Laconia, N.H.) found the back of the net in the opening minute to give her team the early 1-0 edge. Colby-Sawyer would go on to score three more goals before Wells stopped the bleeding to make it a 4-1 game, which would hold over the final seven minutes of the first.

The Chargers dominated the second quarter, scoring four unanswered goals to take the commanding 8-1 lead at the break.

The Vikings came out of the half strong as Kaia Hollingsworth (Methuen, Mass.) found Young for Salem's second goal of the game just 30 seconds into the third period. However, the Chargers would answer two minutes later to reclaim their seven-goal advantage and used the remaining 12 minutes to build on their lead, sending the game into the fourth quarter with the home team ahead, 12-2.

The Chargers would add two more goals to their tally before taking the 14-2 victory over the Vikings.

The Vikings are back at home this Tuesday, March 12 when they welcome cross-town foe, Gordon College, for a 7p.m. start.
