#12 Elmira Posts 6-0 Victory Over Salem State, Hollingsworth Records Saves Record

SALEM, Mass. -- #12 Elmira used six different goal scorers to post a 6-0 victory over Salem State in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action on Saturday afternoon at Rockett Arena. The Soaring Eagles are now 12-6-1 on the season and 9-2-1 in conference. The Vikings slide to 5-13-1 and 2-9-1 in the NEHC. Salem State senior goalie Kaia Hollingsworth (Methuen, Mass.) recorded a school-record 75 saves in the contest.

Elmira struck first, scoring twice in the first period to take a 2-0 lead. Holley Riva (Lakeville, Conn.) beat Hollingsworth at the 11:56 mark. Later, Alayna Toole (Rocky River, Ohio) poked home a loose puck at 16:27 to extend the lead to 2-0. The Soaring Eagles held play in the Vikings' zone for most of the period, holding a commanding 28-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Lexi Hoffmann (Bellmore, N.Y.) found Piper Andrews (Fergus Falls, Minn.) for a one-timer from the slot to increase the margin to 3-0 midway through the second period. A breakaway power play goal by MK Boyle (Newport, R.I.) and Elmira's second power play goal of the game, this time from Erika Goleniak (Canton, Mich.) pushed the lead to 5-0 before Claire Meeder (Woodbury, Minn.) added the fourth goal of the period for the Soaring Eagles, making the score 6-0 at the end of the second.

Elmira continued to dominate in the third period, adding 28 more shots on net despite not scoring. The Soaring Eagles ended with an 81-10 advantage in shots on goal. Elmira goalie Leonie Kuehberger (Hingham, Mass.) picked up the win, stopping all 10 shots to earn the shutout.
