William Smith Pulls Away For a 6-0 Victory Over Salem State

GENEVA, N.Y. -- Six different skaters scored goals for William Smith, which shutout Salem State, 6-0 in a New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) contest at The Cooler on Saturday. The Herons even their record at 3-3 with a 3-1-0 mark in conference play. The Vikings are now 1-5 and 0-2-0 in the NEHC. 

Grace Romeo scored just :36 seconds into the opening period, a period that saw William Smith outshoot the Vikings, 15-8. Despite the heavy pressure by the Herons, Salem State goalie Cassandra Valentine kept William Smith out of the net, which, included a second period that saw the Herons own a 14-2 advantage in shots on goal as the the Vikings entered the third period trailing just 1-0.

However, William Smith opened the game up in the third, scoring five goals to pull away for a 6-0 win. A power play goal by Laine Heiser pushed the lead to 2-0 before Colleen Quirk and Kelly Howe tallied back-to-back goals just past the midway point in the third. Annabel Ziskin and Elizabeth MacMurray capped the scoring with a power play goal at 16:52 and an even strength goal at 19:14. 

Erin Murray made 15 saves in the victory while Valentine ended the game with 42 saves. Catherine Lawrence led Salem State with five shots on goal.
