Elmira Ends Vikings' Season

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Salem State squared off against #8 Elmira in the opening round of the New England Hockey Conference quarterfinal round on Saturday at the Murray Athletic Center. The Soaring Eagles, who won the regular season league title for the second year in a row, shutout the Vikings 7-0 and are now 21-5 on the year. Salem State concludes their season 6-17-2. 

Katie Manning put Elmira in front 1-0 midway thru the first period for the only score of the period. McKenzie Schmidt made it 2-0 early in the second with a shorthanded goal, the first of three goals scored by Elmira in the middle period. Erika Goleniak's power-play score and the first of two goals by Mary McCafferty made it a 4-0 game at the end of two as the Soaring Eagles held a 22-3 shot advantage in the second. 
 
McCafferty started a run of three unanswered third period goals as Elizabeth LePage and Emma Bradbury made the final 7-0. 
 
Leonie Kuehberger made nine saves in the win. Hannah Aveni made 52 saves for the Vikings, who were outshot 59-9.
