Salem State Sails Past Rivier 4-0

SALEM, Mass. – Goalie  Hannah Aveni stopped 29 shots to pick up her second shutout in a week as Salem State clipped Rivier 4-0 at Rockett Arena on Tuesday evening. Aveni, who blanked New England College 2-0 on Friday, earned her second win of the season. The Vikings up their record to 5-14-2 on the year while the Raiders slip to 6-11-2.

This was the first of three Pride Games that Salem State will celebrate over the next two weeks.

Alexis Thomas setup Salem State with their first goal of the game, creating a turnover in Rivier's zone, then finishing off a scoring chance with a put-back for a 1-0 lead at 4:12 of the first period.  Later, Gianna Beauclair slipped a shot under the stick of goalie Madelyn Morgan at the 11:48 mark, allowing the Vikings to exit the opening period with a 2-0 lead.

Aveni kept the Raiders off the scoreboard over the first two periods, stopping all 24 shots as her play allowed Salem State to build a 3-0 lead after MacKenzie Mallett added her team-leading sixth goal in the final minute of the second period. Lexi Warner slipped a shot past Morgan to extend the lead to 4-0 in the opening minutes of the fourth and Aveni did the rest to complete the shutout win.

Morgan made 47 saves for the Raiders, who were outshot 51-29.
