Norwich Storms Past Salem State 11-1

SALEM, Mass. – Norwich used seven first period goals to win for the fifth time in six games (5-0-1) as the Cadets stormed past Salem State 11-1 in an NEHC contest at Rockett Arena on Saturday. Norwich is now 15-5-2 and 13-1-2 in conference. The Vikings slide to 4-14-2 and 2-12-2 in the league.

Ann-Frederique Guay had a first period hat-trick on her way to a five-goal game. Ingrid Holstad-Berge started the run with a score just 2:41 into the contest. Guay added her first goal just :19 seconds later before Mikah Baptiste pushed in a power-play goal for a 3-0 lead. Frederique Guay tallied back-to-back scores with Ally Lague and Saige Biddle adding to the total as Norwich exited the first period leading 7-0.

Holstad-Berge made it 8-0 less than a minute into the second, but Salem State's Alexis Thomas ended the shutout with a score at the 3:56 mark. Goals from Frederique Guay and Jillian Jackson increased the lead to 10-1 before the second intermission. Frederique Guay added the Cadets' 11th goal in the third to cap the scoring.

Leocadia Clark earned the win with 16 saves for Norwich. Hannah Aveni took the loss, making saves 13 as back-up goalies Cassandra Valentine – 7 saves and Dana Smullen – 23 saves also found time in net. Norwich racked up a 54-17 advantage in shots while winning 34-of-47 face-offs.
