Panthers, Vikings Skate to 2-2 Tie

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Goalie Hannah Aveni made 43 saves as Salem State and Plymouth State battled to a 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon at Hanaway Rink in a New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) match. The Vikings are now 3-13-2 overall and 1-11-2 in conference while the Panthers are 3-17-1 and 2-11-1 in the NEHC.

MacKenzie Mallett notched her fifth goal of the season to stake Salem State to a 1-0 lead at 10:57 of the first. However, Sophie Streed netted back-to-back goals just seven seconds apart as Plymouth State claimed a 2-1 advantage after one period of play. An Abby Stafford power-play goal provided the only scoring of the second despite the Vikings being outshot 29-8 in the period.

Aveni was stout in goal, keeping Plymouth State off the scoreboard, turning away 20 shots over the final two periods, before stopping all nine Panther attempts in overtime to preserve the tie.

Amelia Julian made 16 saves for Plymouth State, who racked up a 45-18 advantage in shots while winning 45-of-71 face-offs.
