Castleton Skates to 4-1 Victory Over Vikings

RUTLAND, Vt. -- Castleton skated to a 4-1 victory over Salem State in a New England Hockey Conference matchup at Spartan Arena on Friday evening. The Spartans used three first period goals, including a pair of power-play goals by Darby Palisi, who had a hat-trick on the night, to improve to 12-7-1 and 9-4 in conference. The Vikings go to 3-13-1 and 1-11-1 in the NEHC.

Julia Carpenter scored for Castleton at 12:47 of the first before Palisi netted back-to-back power-play goals less than a minute apart to end the period. The Spartans and Vikings combined for 19 shots on goal in the second, but neither team found the back of the net as Castleton maintained their three goal advantage.

Palisi added her third goal at 3:21 of the third to increase the lead to 4-0. Catherine Lawrence got one back for Salem State later in the third, but Salem State's offense could not convert on any of their other nine shots in the period.

Kirsten DiCicco earned the win with 24 saves in goal while Kaia Hollingsworth made 35 saves in the loss. The Vikings went 0-for-5 on the power-play while being outshot 39-25.
