Four Unanswered Goals By Johnson & Wales Stun Vikings In Overtime
SALEM, Mass. -- Johnson & Wales scored four unanswered goals, including three in the final 12:45 of regulation, to defeat Salem State 5-4  in overtime in a New England Hockey Conference tilt at Rockett Arena on Friday evening. The Wildcats earn their first road win of the season and are now 3-11-1 on the year and 3-6-2 in conference. The Vikings slip to 3-11-1 and go to 1-9-1 in the NEHC. 
 
The two teams picked up the tempo in the second period after playing to a scoreless draw in the first. Kaylin Garner ended the stalemate for Johnson & Wales, putting in a rebound at the 11:43 mark of the second period. However, Salem State responded with two quick goals to take a 2-1 lead. Carolyn Mahoney converted on a Vikings' power-play before Makayla McGrath stole a pass deep in the Wildcats' zone and angled a shot between the crossbar and back of netminder Sofia Tamayo. 
 
Cecelia Curtin made it 3-1 in favor of Salem State early in the third as she slipped a puck through the legs of Tamayo.  Catherine Lawrence put Salem State up by three goals as her shot deflected off of a Johnson & Wales defender and into the back of the net. Allyson Barry cut the lead in half with a score for the Wildcats at the 12:45 of the third to jumpstart the Johnson & Wales comeback. Haylee Owen then made it a one-goal game at 17:23 of the final period. The Wildcats pulled Tamayo and with the extra-attacker, Garner tied the score with her second goal of the game with just 00:38 seconds remaining. 
 
Paige Henault completed the comeback, slipping a puck past goalie Kaia Hollingsworth 1:18 into the overtime period.
 
Tamayo made 12 saves to earn her first win of the season (1-4-1) for Johnson & Wales. Kaia Hollingsworth made 36 saves for the Vikings, who were outshot 41-16.
