Smullen, Vikings Shutout AMCATS

SALEM, Mass. – Salem State secured a 2-0 victory over the Anna Maria AMCATS at Rockett Arena on Monday evening. Dana Smullen (Peabody, Mass.) produced a shutout as the Vikings won their second contest of the year in improving to 2-4-1. The AMCATS go to 1-4-2.

Both teams entered the second period having failed to score in the first. Kendra Currier (Middleton, Mass.) finally broke the deadlock, tapping home a rebound with 8:49 left in the second, giving Salem State a 1-0 lead.  

The Vikings held a 23-14 advantage in shots over the first two periods, but the AMCATS dominated the offense in the opening minutes of the third, taking nine shots to the Vikings' two over the first six minutes. Salem State killed off an early AMCATS' penalty before Alexis Thomas (Barnstable, Mass.) iced the game for the Vikings with less than three minutes remaining.  

Smullen stopped all 27 shots in the victory.  Sam Dahill (Littleton, Mass.) made 27 saves in net for Anna Maria. Both teams were 0-for-3 on the power-play.
