Castleton Gets Past Salem State

SALEM, Mass. – Three second period goals propelled Castleton to a 3-1 New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) win on Saturday at Rockett Arena. The Spartans advance their record to 4-2 and go to 2-2 in the NEHC. The Vikings are now 1-4-1 on the year.

A wrister by Brooke Greenwood (Brampton, Ontario) tied the game 1-1 early in the second as Castleton converted on their first power-play opportunity of the game. A mishandle by the Vikings set up Emily Harris (Crondall, England), who gave the Spartans the lead, just :47 seconds later, as she laced a shot past goalie Kaia Hollingsworth (Methuen, Mass.). Samantha Lawler (Billerica, Mass.) angled one past Hollingsworth for Castleton's second power-play goal of the period, giving the Spartans a 3-1 lead.

Castleton's offense dominated possession in the third period, as the Spartans finished the game with a 42-20 advantage in shots.

Clare Simon (Fort McMurray, Alberta) made 19 saves in the win while Hollingsworth stopped 39-of-42 shots.
