SALEM, Mass. – Kaia Hollingsworth (Methuen, Mass.) made 27 saves as Salem State came-from-behind to defeat Plymouth State, 2-1, giving first-year head coach Julian Giantonio his first collegiate head coaching victory. The Vikings earn their initial win of the season and improve to 1-3-1 in the NEHC. The Panthers slip to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in conference.
Meghan Hamilton (Walpole, Mass.) redirected a pass from Emily DeSimone (Walpole, Mass.) for the game's first goal as Plymouth State took a 1-0 lead on their second power-play of the first period at the 15:00 minute mark. The Panthers held a 12-8 advantage in shots, carrying a one-goal lead into the second.
Jessica Robert (North Reading, Mass.) scored on a breakaway for the Vikings, tying the game, 1-1 for the only score of the second period.
Salem State then took the lead in the third when Carolyn Mahoney (Melrose, Mass.) poked in a loose puck after goalie Maggie Vance (Woodbury, Minn.) failed to secure a loose puck that slipped through the legs of a Panthers' defender.
Vance finished with 26 saves for the Panthers in the loss. Plymouth State finished 1-for-5 on the power-play while the Vikings did not score in four attempts.
