Salem State Earns 3-3 Tie Against Johnson & Wales

ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- Kaia Hollingsworth made 30 saves as Salem State erased a 3-0 deficit to earn a 3-3 draw against Johnson & Wales on Saturday afternoon at the New England Sports Village in a New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) matchup. The Vikings now stand at 0-3-1 on the year. The Wildcats are 0-1-1 on the season. 

Despite being outshot 15-7 in the first, Johnson & Wales struck first with Skylar Robert scoring the first goal of the game with just over six minutes remaining in the opening period. Kylie O'Keefe made it 2-0 at 15:06 as the Wildcats took control early. Jianna Truppi then made it 3-0 in favor of the home team with a power-play goal 5:51 into the second. Catherine Lawrence broke the scoreless streak for Salem State with her second goal of the year, the first of two straight power-play goals for the Vikings in the second period. MacKenzie Mallett made it a one-goal game at the 14:29 mark as Salem State gained momentum heading into the  third. 

Makayla McGrath scored the equalizer with 10:35 left in the third while Hollingsworth made 11 third period saves to keep Johnson & Wales off the scoreboard to send the game into overtime. The Wildcats had an early power-play opportunity, but the Vikings' defense limited Johnson & Wales to just three shots on net as the game ended in a 3-3 tie.

Anna Maulson made 42 saves for the Wildcats, who were outshot 45-33 for the game.
