Southern Maine Blanks Salem State 4-0

SALEM, Mass. – Haley McKim (Moncton, NB) posted 25 saves, allowing Southern Maine to shutout Salem State 4-0 on "Senior Day" at Rockett Arena. Four different Huskies notched a goal as Southern Maine improves to 15-9 and 12-6 in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC). The Vikings conclude their home schedule 5-19 and 2-16 in the league.

The Vikings honored seniors Colleen McAnespie (Lowell, Mass.), MacKenzie Mallett (York, Maine) and Kayla McKim  (Wakefield, Mass.), who were playing in their final home game at Rockett Arena.

Southern Maine scored the only goal of the first period as Georgie Snow (Yarmouth Port, Mass.) deflected a shot past Hannah Aveni (Melrose, Mass.) for the game's first score at the 17:12 mark. The Huskies held a 16-7 shot advantage in the first.

Shannon Douglas  (Telord, England) redirected a shot from the point to make it 2-0 in favor of the Huskies midway through the second.

Two third period goals iced the game for Southern Maine. Rylie Binette (Milan, N.H.) made it a 3-0 game 6:50 into the third as her shot clipped the left post before going in. Later, Brianna Doty (Lyndonville, Vt.) added a power-play goal for the Huskies to extend the lead to 4-0 at the 16:45 mark. 

Aveni made 33 saves for Salem State, which was outshot for the game by a 37-25 margin.
