Norwich Beats Salem State 9-0

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Norwich skated to a 9-0 win over Salem State on Sunday afternoon at Kreitzberg Arena in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action. Kaia Hollingsworth (Methuen, Mass.) posted 48 saves for the Vikings, who are now 4-17 and 2-14 in the league. The Cadets improve to 17-5 and 15-1 in conference.   

Senior forward Kenady Nevicosi (Breckenridge, Colo.) scored her first hat trick, while Aimee Headland (Nottingham, United Kingdom) scored twice and Julia Masotta (Tewksbury, Mass.) had four points to lead the Cadets' offense to the victory. 

Senior goalie Alexa Berg (West Fargo, N.D.) stopped all six shots she faced to earn her sixth shutout of the season and 15th of her career. 

Nevicosi scored the game-winning goal at the 4:52 mark of the first period off assists from Taylor Tom (Kenora, Ontario) and Melianne Reynolds (Sherbrooke, Quebec). 

Norwich ramped up the pressure as the period wore on, scoring three more times with Ingrid Holstad-Berge (Stavanger, Norway), Headland and Ann-Frederique Guay (St. Lambert-de-Lauzon, Quebec) each scored goals before the end of the period. 

The Cadets added three more goals early in the second period in a span of 1:08, including two goals just six seconds apart. Mikah Baptiste (Ottawa, Ontario), Headland, Nevicosi all scored goals in the middle frame. 

Masotta and Nevicosi capped the scoring late in the third period with a pair of power play goals to give Norwich three player-advantage goals in the game.
