Salem State Blanks Rivier 2-0

SALEM, Mass. -  Hannah Aveni (Melrose, Mass.) made 14 saves and Abby Stafford (Lynn, Mass.) and Carolyn Mahoney (Melrose, Mass.) provided both goals as Salem State defeated Rivier 2-0 in non-conference action at Rockett Arena on Tuesday evening. The Vikings up their record to 3-14 on the year while the Raiders stand at 1-10-1.

Stafford netted a power-play score from inside the blue line at the 18:11 mark of the first. The Vikings' defense made the goal stand up, limiting Rivier to just six shots on net, Neither team could generate any offense in the second period, which saw the Vikings outshoot Rivier 9-2.

Mahoney iced the game in the third period, racing in for a loose puck and using her backhand to beat goalie Rachel Hinkley (Swedesboro, N.J.) at the 11:26 mark of the third.

The Vikings totaled 31 shots to just 14 for the Raiders. Hinkley recorded 29 saves in the loss for Rivier.
