ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- Three third period power-play goals propelled Johnson and Wales to a 4-2 New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) victory over Salem State on Saturday evening. The Wildcats improve to 8-7-1 and 5-4 in conference. The Vikings slide to 2-14 and 1-11 in the NEHC.
Tied 1-1 heading into the third, Johnson & Wales converted on three power-play attempts to pull away for a 4-2 victory. Soph Hamel and Logan Arseneau scored back-to-back goals just over a minute apart, giving the Wildcats a 3-1 advantage early in the period. Deanna Bosco got one back for Salem State, but Hannah Tracy iced the game with an empty-netter on the fourth power-play attempt for Johnson & Wales of the period.
MacKenzie Mallett gave Salem State a first period lead with her own power-play goal with just over twenty seconds remaining in the first. The Wildcats' Koryn Russell scored the only goal of the second period, tying the game at 1-all.
Sofia Tamayo earned the win making 15 saves. Kaia Hollingsworth stopped 30 shots in the loss. Salem State went just 1-for-7 on the power-play while Johnson & Wales finished 3-for-8.
