Hollingsworth Notches Shutout in 2-0 Victory Over Anna Maria

SALEM, Mass. – Goalie Kaia Hollingsworth (Methuen, Mass.) stopped all 26 shots as Salem State blanked Anna Maria 2-0 to earn their first victory of the season on Tuesday evening at Rockett Arena. The Vikings improve to 1-6 on the season while the AMCATS slip to 2-5-1.

Anna Maria held a 10-7 advantage in shots in the opening period as both teams worked their way into an offensive flow. The AMCATS had the first good scoring chance as Raven Carriere (Labroquerie West, MB) found herself all alone just outside the crease, but goalie Hollingsworth swallowed up Hollingsworth's attempt with six minutes remaining. Less than 10 seconds later, Grace Dodge (St. Paul, Minn.) had a clear breakaway, but she could not control the puck as it slipped harmlessly to the left of the net.

Hallee Courtemanche (West Warwick, R.I.) countered for the Vikings with a shot off the post created by at turnover with two minutes left in the first.

Salem State broke open the game with two second period scores. Colleen McAnespie (Lowell, Mass.) netted her first goal of the year following up her first shot attempt to put the Vikings on the board at the 9:43 mark. later, Abby Stafford (Lynn, Mass.) extended the lead as Alexis Thomas (Barnstable, Mass.) found Stafford trailing and threaded a perfect pass right on the blade of her stick for a shorthanded goal and a 2-0 lead.

The AMCATS attempted to comeback in the third period, but Hollingsworth stoned a 3-on-1 break by Anna Maria, stopping Dodge from point blank range. Meghan Sonia (West Tisbury, Mass.) just missed cutting the deficit to a single goal as her shot deflected off the post with five minutes remaining. Anna Maria used an extra-attacker over the final 2:57, but Salem State's defense kept the shutout in tact.

The AMCATS held a 26-22 advantage in shots, but went 0-for-4 on the power play.

Julia Smith (Chilwack, BC) made 20 saves in net for Anna Maria.
