#7 Norwich Gets Past Salem State 7-1

SALEM, Mass. -- Amanda Conway (Methuen, Mass.) scored two goals and added an assist to fuel the #7 ranked Norwich Cadets to a 7-1 victory over the Salem State Vikings at Richard H. Rockett Arena on Friday night. The Cadets' turned up their goal-scoring in the second and third periods to pull away. Norwich improves to 14-4-1 on the season and 11-0 in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC). Salem State drops to 3-15-1 on the season and 2-9-1 in the NEHC.

Salem State took a 1-0 lead 9:24 into the first period when Ashley Wojewodzic (Lynn, Mass.) knocked the puck into the Vikings' offensive zone. Goalie Kate Winstanley (Lansdale, Pa.) couldn't handle the puck and MacKenzie Mallet (York, Maine) fired it towards the far post and found the back of the net.

14:18 into the first period, Conway's goal evened the score at 1-1 for the Cadets. Conway juked around the Vikings' defenders opening up a one-on-one opportunity with goalie Dana Smullen (Peabody, Mass.). Conway shot it low under Smullen's skate to tie the game.

5:05 into the second period, Taylor Tom (Kenora, Ontario) took a long shot, but it was initially saved by Smullen. Ingrid Holstad-Berge (Stavanger, Norway) tapped in the rebound to put the Cadets up 2-1. 

In the last four minutes of the second period, Norwich extended their lead to 4-1 with a goal from Conway (16:03) off a power play and a score by Carley Sedlar (Howell, Mich.) at 17:32.

The Cadets' dominance continued into the third, scoring three more goals from Kayla Goleniak (Canton, Mich.) (6:09), Julia Masotta (Tewksbury, Mass.) (6:42), and Sophie McGovern (Hermantown, Minn.) (14:19).

Norwich's Winstanley completed the game with one goal allowed and 16 saves. The win puts Winstanley at 3-0 in net for the season.

Salem State's Smullen finished with seven goals allowed and 30 saves. Smullen's goalie record is now 0-5.

Norwich finished with 37 shots on goal to Salem State's 17.
