Vikings Surge Past AMCATS

SALEM, Mass. -- Rose Sullivan (Charlestown, Mass.) scored two goals and added an assist as the Salem State Vikings surged to a 6-1 win over Anna Maria at Richard H. Rocket Arena on Tuesday. The Vikings are on a three-game winning streak as they improve to 5-7-1 on the season while the AMCATS drop to 1-10 on the year.

In the first period, Catherine Salvetti (Saugus, Mass.) took a slapshot from just inside the blue line, however the puck deflected off of goalie Gabrielle Ohanesian (Bozemen, MT.) and Kylie Currier (Middleton, Mass.) tapped the puck into the back of the net to put the Vikings up 1-0.

Later in the period, Juianne Nelson (Armstrong, BC, Canada) picked up a penalty for checking to give the Vikings a power play. Amanda Giles (Merrimack, N.H.) took a shot from about five feet away, Ohanesian couldn't handle the puck and Ally Webster (Hanson, Mass.) made her pay by slipping the puck past her as Salem State took a 2-0 lead.

The Vikings led 3-0 when Ohanesian couldn't get a hold of the puck, which allowed Sullivan to recover the puck on the right side and score in the second period.

With a few minutes left in the second, Salem State took a commanding 5-0 lead with goals from Ashley Wojewodzic (Lynn, Mass.) and Sullivan.

The AMCATS got on the board in the third period when Niamh Cote (Tewksbury, Mass.) found Nelson on a breakaway and Nelson took a shot that soared into the right corner of the net to bring the score 5-1.

A couple of minutes later, the Vikings built a 6-1 lead when Jacqueline Sindoris (Charlestown, Mass.) scored with a low shot on the left side of the net.

The Vikings were hitting on all cylinders with six goals and 53 shots on goal, while Anna Marie scored one goal with 14 shots on target.

Ohanesian saved 47 shots for the AMCATS. Sarah Plourde (Hooksett, N.H.) saved seven shots and Calie Richman (Boston, Mass.) stopped six shots for the Vikings.
