Salem State to Honor 1986 Women’s Basketball NCAA Championship Team

SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State University will honor the 1986 NCAA National Championship women's basketball team in a halftime ceremony on Saturday, February 1st. The '86 team will be inducted into the 2019 class of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Hall of Fame; will highlight this weekend's athletic alumni and families reception. The Lady Vikings will host conference rival Fitchburg State at noon in Twohig Gymnasium.

Salem State will host four athletic contests at the O'Keefe Sports Complex on Saturday. In addition to the women's basketball game, the men's basketball team will take on Fitchburg State at 2:00 PM in Twohig Gymnasium. The men's and women's ice hockey teams will face Plymouth State in Rockett Arena, with the men's game beginning at 1:00 pm, to be followed by the women's game at 4:00 pm. All Salem State students, faculty and fans are invited to attend.

10:00 am – Free Open Skate (Skates required)

10:00 am – Women's and Men's Basketball Alumni Game

11:00 am – Reception Opens

12:00 pm – Women's Basketball vs. Fitchburg State*

1:00 pm – Men's Ice Hockey vs. Plymouth State*

2:00 pm – Men's Basketball vs. Fitchburg State*

4:00 pm – Women's Ice Hockey vs. Plymouth State*

* All Salem State athletic events are open to the public and are free of charge.
